Course Prerequisites

This program is highly accessible and a fantastic way for the whole family to learn about the ocean.

• Minimum Age: 6 years old (for the non-diving version); 10 years old (for the diving version).

• Certification: None required for the academic portion.

  • Note: To complete the optional open water training dives, you must be a certified Open Water Diver or equivalent.

• Medical: Standard "Fit to Dive" medical questionnaire.

 

Course Structure

The program is designed to be flexible and fun, focusing on visual recognition.

1. Digital Learning (Theory):
   Complete the academic sessions via the MySSI App. You will study:

   • Fish Families: How to group fish based on body shape and characteristics.

   • Habitat and Behavior: Where different species live and how they interact with the reef.

   • Identification Techniques: Tips for spotting camouflaged or shy species.

   • Sustainable Diving: How to observe marine life without damaging the environment.

2. Practical Application (Optional but Recommended):
   While you can earn a "non-diving" certification through theory alone, many SSI Dive Centers offer:

   • Classroom Workshops: Using photos and videos to practice identification.

   • Two Training Dives/Snorkels: Head underwater with an instructor to put your new skills to the test in a real-world environment.
