Course Prerequisites

• Minimum Age: 6 years old (perfect for young explorers and families).

• Certification: None required. You do not need to be a scuba diver to enroll.

  • Note: If you want to include optional training dives, an entry-level certification like Open Water Diver is needed.

• Medical: No specific medical requirements for the theory-only portion.

Course Structure

The Marine Ecology program focuses on building a solid foundation of knowledge through engaging materials.

1. Digital Learning (Theory):
   Complete 6 academic sessions via the MySSI App. You will explore:

   • Ocean Zones: From the sunlit surface to the mysterious deep sea.

   • Ecological Interactions: Competition, predation, and the amazing world of symbiosis.

   • Marine Environments: Detailed looks at estuaries, rocky shores, and coral reefs.

   • Human Impact: A honest look at climate change, overfishing, and pollution.

2. Practical Application (Optional):
   While not required for the certificate, many SSI Training Centers offer:

   • Expert Workshops: Discussions with instructors about local marine ecosystems.

   • Eco-Dives or Snorkels: Two optional in-water sessions to observe ecological principles in action.

 

Recognition

This specialty counts toward your SSI Specialty Diver, Advanced Open Water, and Master Diver ratings. It is also a core component of the SSI Ecology Bundle!
