Ready for your next big step? The program formerly known as Advanced Adventurer has been redesigned and renamed to the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver course. This is now the official, primary certification for divers looking to expand their horizons immediately after their Open Water course.

  • No Experience Required: You can start this program immediately after your Open Water certification—no minimum dive count needed.

  • 5 Adventure Dives: Experience a "taster" of five different specialties. Deep Diving and Navigation are now mandatory core pillars of the course, ensuring you gain essential safety skills.

  • Your Choice: Pick 3 additional elective dives to suit your interests, such as Perfect Buoyancy, Night & Limited Visibility, or Wreck Diving.

  • Depth Limit: Earn the qualification to dive to a maximum of 30 metres (100 feet) worldwide.

  • Fast Progression: Complete the entire program in just 2 to 3 days.

Looking for the "Elite" Level? Take the Advanced Specialty Diver recognition level (requiring 24 dives and 4 specialties). This remains the goal for those wanting to prove they are truly experienced masters of their craft.

The benefits of the new structure:

  • Global Recognition: Your digital C-card is now instantly recognized by dive centers worldwide as the equivalent to other "Advanced" programs.

  • Credit Where It’s Due: Every "Adventure Dive" you complete counts as the first dive toward that full Specialty certification later on.

Core Requirements

  • Certification: You must hold an Open Water Diver certification from SSI or another recognized training agency (such as PADI, NAUI, or CMAS).

  • Minimum Age: The standard minimum age is 12 years old.

    • Divers aged 10–11 can participate in certain "Adventure Dives" but may have restricted depth limits (typically 12m) until they turn 12.

    • Divers aged 12–14 earn a Junior Advanced Open Water certification with a maximum depth limit of 21 metres.

  • Logged Dives: Unlike the old "Advanced" recognition level, this new course does not require a minimum number of logged dives to start. You can begin immediately after finishing your Open Water course.

Health & Safety

  • Medical Fitness: You must complete a standard RSTC Medical Statement. If you answer "Yes" to any health conditions, you will need a signed clearance from a physician before you can get in the water.
